Vivian
Lee (Director)
So
many decades have passed since Vivian stepped on to a stage
for the first time, she’s lost count of the plays and
musicals she has either acted in or directed. Music was her
first love, but more recently, because her singing voice has
matured into something resembling a crow in trouble, she has
left the musical genre and turned to drama and comedy. Vivian
directed the Borelians’ award-winning production of
Orphans in 2006, and is thrilled to be working again with
some of the cast and crew from that show, as well as many
people she hasn’t had the pleasure of working with before.
Vivian’s life outside the theatre is a complete bore,
except for those precious magical moments spent with Andrew
and their few friends and family. She spends a lot of time
vegging in front of the TV, and is so thankful for the chance
to get out to the theatre whenever possible. She looks forward
to being old enough to play a really old lady on the stage.
She spends a lot of time with her tongue stuck in her cheek.
Christy
Chase (Stage
Manager)
This
is Christy's third production with the Borelians. Last season,
she helped out backstage as an honourary crew member on The
Miracle Worker where she tried her hand at several jobs, including
helping ensure the water pumped worked. Earlier this season,
she was apprentice/assistant stage manager on Alice in Wonderland
and wrangled oysters and flamingos (don't ask) and kids of
all ages. This time out, she's making her debut as stage manager.
When she's not in the theatre, she's an award-winning writer
and editor covering the entertainment scene in Durham for
Metroland Durham Region Media Group newspapers.
Deb
Johnson (Understudy)
Where
you've seen me before: 'Silkwood'--no, that was Meryl Streep.
'Sohpie's Choice'--no, that was Meryl Streep, too. 'The Devil
Wears Prada'--once again,
Meryl Streep. Although you haven't seen me on stage or screen,
you may have seen me in the cheap seats of
cinemas and theatres, enthralled by the performances on stage
and screen. Peculiar habits: I love to spend insanely copious
amounts of time in a virtual world killing beasties
and bad guys. Take a good look at my face. You'll see it again.
Lee
Laycoe (Lenny)
Lee’s
first performance with the Borelians was in “10 Lost
Years” in 1997. She has also performed with the Uxbridge
Players in “Opening Night”.
One of her favourite roles was as Agnes Gooch in “Auntie
Mame” performed by the Borelians in 2005. Last year
Lee was involved with “The Miracle Worker” and
also “The Mystery Of Thade Mansion”. She is very
proud to be working with such a talented cast and crew. Lee
is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with award
winning director, Vivian Lee. She hopes you enjoy the show
as much as she has being part of it!
Carey
Nicholson (Meg)
To
paraphrase Roy, a favorite character from Cosi - “Carey,
you’re back on the stage!”. And it is great to
be onstage again after almost three years in the director’s
chair. It is also very satisfying to play such a real and
honest character as Meg after my recent forays into the fantasy
worlds of Alice in Wonderland and Seussical. In the past 7
years I have been involved with numerous community theatre
productions in Durham and elsewhere, performing, choreographing,
producing and directing with Scugog Choral Society, The Borelians,
OnStage Uxbridge, Oshawa Little Theatre, Port Perry Players
and Scarborough Music Theatre but the Borelians are home and
as Meg says, “It’s so good to be home!”
Joanne
Norman (Chick)
Joanne
has been involved in theatre for most of her life, and expects
to continue enjoying it for a long time to come. A few of
her favourite roles include Edith in “Blithe Spirit”,
Roz in “Moon Over Buffalo”, Essie in “You
Can’t Take It With You”, and May in “The
Affections of May”. Thank you to Vivian for giving her
the opportunity to perform the wonderful role of “Chick”;
it has quickly become another favourite. Joanne also directs
for the theatre and is looking forward to directing “Lost
in Yonkers” for the Borelians in the fall of this year.
Joanne has thoroughly enjoyed working with this cast and crew
and knows that you will enjoy the culmination of their hard
work.
Graeme
Powell (Barnett)
This
is Graeme's fourth production with the Borelians, after playing
in variety of shows, from Orphans, to Hay Fever, to The Mystery
of Thade Mansion. Graeme enjoys horse-back riding, long walks
on the beach, discussing post-colonial theories of representation
in modern African cinema, and eating. Shocked and surprised
whenever he is cast, especially in plays, he hopes that you
love every minute of Crimes of the Heart. It has been a pleasure
working with Vivian again, and he has enjoyed watching the
heart-ache and hilarity of the Magrath sisters develop over
the past few months.
Michael
Serres (Doc)
Michael
became a Borelian soon after arriving in Port Perry in 1993.
His most recent roles have included David Bliss in last year's
"Hay Fever", Captain Keller in "The Miracle
Worker", and Humpty Dumpty and The Mad Hatter in "Alice
in Wonderland". Michael has also worked on the sound
design of many local productions, including "Amadeus"
and "Steel Magnolias" for Onstage Uxbridge, as well
as the Borelians' most recent production of "Alice in
Wonderland". Michael tried to persuade Graeme to write
his bio, but Graeme's fees were exorbitant, preferring to
be paid in cash instead of "bags of p'kahns". Michael
is thrilled to be playing with such a talented cast and crew,
and especially under the direction of Vivian Lee.
Annette
Stokes-Harris (Babe)

Annette
Stokes-Harris is a theatre graduate from the University of
Waterloo. She was Artistic Director in Toronto for Act One
Theatre. Her favorite roles have been "Chrissy"
from DANCING AT LAUNASSA, "Catherine" from THE FOREIGNER,
and "Minnie" from LEAVING HOME. Annette wishes to
thank her director for the profound privilege of playing the
role of "Babe". This performance is dedicated to
Aunty Kay and the indomitable spirit of the Geary Girls.
